RICCC is Calling

Rhode Island’s Cannabis Control Commission is holding four listening sessions across the state this summer. Here are the announced meeting times:

We strongly believe in the significance of showing up for cannabis legislation and protecting our personal freedoms. Here are a few reasons why we consider it important.

  1. Advocating for Accessible Medicine: Cannabis has demonstrated therapeutic potential for various medical conditions. By engaging in cannabis legislation, we can support the creation of regulations that ensure safe access to products for patients and consumers in need. It allows us to contribute to a comprehensive cannabis programs that prioritize consumer well-being and promote responsible use.

  2. Promoting Social Justice: Historically, cannabis prohibition has disproportionately impacted marginalized communities. Engaging in legislation provides an opportunity to address the social and racial injustices associated with cannabis prohibition. By advocating for fair policies, expungement of past convictions, and equitable opportunities in the cannabis industry, we can work towards an equitable and inclusive society.

  3. Ensuring Consumer Safety: Cannabis legislation establishes regulatory frameworks for quality control, testing standards, and labeling requirements. Participating in the legislative process enables us to advocate for robust safety measures to protect consumers. We can push for regulations that prioritize: proper product storage and handling, accurate labeling, comprehensive testing for terpenes, cannabinoids, and contaminants, ensuring consumers have access to safe and reliable cannabis products.

  4. Shaping Industry Standards: Engaging in cannabis legislation allows us to contribute to establishing industry standards and best practices. By providing input on issues such as cultivation practices, sustainable production methods, and ethical business conduct, we can help shape a responsible and environmentally conscious cannabis industry.

  5. Fostering Education and Research: Legislative involvement enables us to advocate for funding and support for accessible cannabis education and research. By promoting evidence-based information and encouraging further scientific exploration, we can advance our understanding of cannabis, its potential benefits, and its potential risks. This knowledge can empower individuals to make informed decisions about incorporating cannabis wellness practices into their lives and contribute to the development of effective cannabis-based therapies.

By participating in legislation we can help shape the industry foster a more responsible, inclusive, equitable, and informed approach to cannabis use and access.
